Issue 17  |  January 28, 2026

This spotlight is part of NEWH (Network for Enriching Women’s Health),
a local resource helping midlife women find trusted providers and navigate care.

Dr. Roshni Patel was one of the first to raise her hand when NEWH was just getting started. If you met her at NEWH’s Fall Midlife Salon, the Not Your Mother’s Menopause event, or through her podcast, you already know her caring approach and commitment to listening. We’re delighted to share more about her newly launched practice.
Meet Dr. Roshni Patel
OB-GYN and Founder of Luminate Gynecology
Dr. Roshni Patel recently launched Luminate Gynecology, a virtual and Edison-based direct-pay practice focused on providing patient centered, relationship-based care for women. She brings years of experience from traditional insurance-based systems and has shifted her model to offer more time, flexibility, and personalized support.
She is a Menopause Society Certified Provider and a partner in NEWH’s midlife health education efforts.

Q: You recently opened your own private GYN practice. What led you to take that step, and why now?

A: Early in 2025, the company where I was employed unexpectedly closed. While this caught me off guard, it also created space I hadn’t had in a long time. The closure gave me a chance to pause and ask what I really wanted my career to look like, and what kind of impact I wanted to have.

Over the years, I found that in large systems and corporate settings, a physician’s autonomy can be surprisingly limited. The focus often shifts toward productivity targets rather than sound patient care. I knew I could be a “good employee,” but that wasn’t the same as feeling fulfilled—especially after seeing how quickly practices can be bought or restructured in ways that change the direction of care and how I am able to practice.

At the same time, I became really clear about the kind of doctor I want to be. I love building relationships with patients and helping them understand their bodies and options.

That’s what led to Luminate Gynecology. A practice designed to be flexible, responsive, and focused on the real pain points women have shared with me for years.

Q: For patients who may not be familiar with private or cash-pay care, how would you describe what makes this model different?

A: In a traditional insurance-based practice, a big part of the visit is shaped by coding, billing rules, and what an insurance plan will or won’t cover. This can unintentionally turn care into something that is compartmentalized and transactional. In contrast, Luminate Gynecology is an insurance-free, direct care practice, meaning the relationship is directly between you and your physician.

Practically, that changes a lot. Because I don’t participate with commercial insurance plans, Medicare, or Medicaid, patients pay a transparent, predictable fee—either a monthly membership or a one-time visit—so there are no surprise bills. Most patients still use their insurance for labs, imaging, and medications. The difference is that the gynecology care itself is delivered in a simpler, more personal way, with clarity and connection at the center.

My approach starts with time and listening. That extended conversation is not “extra”; it’s one of the most important and underutilized tools we have. It helps clarify what’s hormonal, what’s stress, what needs evaluation, and what matters most. If we order labs or make a change to your plan, you don’t have to wait months to follow up. We can review results promptly and adjust your plan so you feel supported and informed—not stuck waiting.

Dr. Patel is also the co-host of No Sick Days, a podcast she shares with therapist Dana Lewishohn, LCSW. As they describe it: “Two moms navigating the messy, meaningful middle of womanhood. They bring clinical insight and real-life honesty to conversations about mental health, hormones, motherhood, identity, and everything your group chat can’t quite cover.”
