I'm only a few months in with trying to create a slower, more intentional business that will support my life, rather than consume it and it's already been a huge learning curve.
Choosing to take a slower lane feels like it goes against every bit of business and marketing advice. It feels like you're doing things wrong and - if you're someone that loves to get stuck into passion projects like me - it also feels completely counter intuitive.
I still have to wake up every day and make the choice to go slower. To not adopt those marketing and business tactics that feel draining and unbounded.
One of the biggest parts of this journey so far has been about building the awareness that allows me to know when something just isn't for me. All that advice you see online, it probably does work, but what feels good and exciting for one person to implement, may feel overwhelming for someone else.
This week, I'd like to invite you to think about what an ideal slow marketing strategy would look like for you.
Forget about all the shoulds and should nots you've seen. Forget about what the internet makes you feel like you need to be doing, and focus solely on what would feel good for you.
Here are some journal prompts you could ask yourself to help you dive into this a little deeper:
- If I could only spend an hour a week on marketing my business, how would I best like to spend it?
- What marketing advice do I hear or see that always makes me roll my eyes or breathe a sigh of frustration?
- What areas of marketing do I feel like I can best play to my strengths?
If you notice any thoughts or feelings telling you that it's not possible, or that you have to do XYZ in order to market successfully, make a note of them. Start to challenge them with reasons why it is possible.
