IN THE
WALLY?
Reflecting on One Year

July 1 marks one year since becoming president of the Massachusetts Dental Society, the organization that represents dentists and patients across the state. It has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my career, and the work reaches well beyond dentists, as it shapes the care available to patients across Massachusetts and New England.

I am proud of what we accomplished. We helped protect dental coverage for the patients who depend on it most, brought free care to hundreds of patients and children through community events, and worked to improve access for adults with special needs.

It has been a full year outside the office too. This year, I have cared for the animals at Zoo New England, including a bush dog and, most recently, a wolf. Our daughter began her second year of veterinary school, a path I nearly took myself before choosing dentistry, two of our children are planning weddings, and this year we are celebrating 29 years at Smileboston and 35 years married to my business and life partner, Laurie. As this is my first year of a two-year MDS term, between the practice, the profession, and everything happening at home, I cannot wait to see what the next year brings.

Meet theTeam: Becky
 
Becky joined Smileboston a little over two years ago, and the story of how she got here is a good one. She met Dr. Spitz at a dental conference, the kind of conversation where two people who genuinely love what they do recognize it in each other almost immediately. The rest, as they say, was history.
 
What drew her in then is what shows up every day now: a genuine passion for dentistry, and an even deeper love for helping patients feel proud of their smiles. There's something quietly powerful about watching a patient leave feeling more confident, and Becky lives for that moment. It probably helps that she greets every patient with a smile of her own.
 
She is also the one behind our morning huddle's joke of the day, which tells you a little something about her. Becky has a gift for bringing joy into a room and never misses an opportunity to make people smile, whether she's caring for patients, supporting her teammates, starting the day with a laugh—or cleaning a bush dog's teeth at the zoo alongside Dr. Spitz.
 
Outside the office, Becky is almost always moving. She's a runner, a vegan cook who treats the kitchen as her happy place, and someone who would rather be outdoors than just about anywhere else, especially on the Cape. Her home is full of love, shared with her husband Chris, her cats, Kitty & Gus, and Arthur, the dog she co-parents with a friend and clearly adores.
Smileboston launched this newsletter to share valuable insights about advanced dental treatments and the specialized care we provide for complex cases. Dr. Spitz’s extensive experience and training allow us to offer comprehensive solutions tailored to each patient’s unique needs. As we continue to integrate new technology and proven treatment methods, we want to keep you informed about the services available at our practice. Dr. Spitz personally wants to share what’s happening at the MDS, as it is a way to understand our commitment to delivering the highest standard of care.
