Owning original artwork truly is an investment; both emotionally and financially. It is bringing home a new family member that can improve your sense of well-being and can make a space feel complete.
Commissioned artwork takes this feeling to the next level, as it is lovingly made just for you & your special space. It goes without saying that creating a custom piece of artwork takes a considerable amount of time and creative energy.
With that in mind, I have come up with a standard-size price list in order to help you decide whether or not a commissioned piece is right for you. If there is a specific size that you would like but don't see below, just ask! I'd be more than happy to work with you to find the perfect fit for your home.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
Where will your artwork live? Where will it hang?
What size of canvas will suit this space best? (For a visual, try using painters' tape to measure canvas sizes directly on your wall!)
Will the painting be hung vertically or horizontally?
Will you want to frame it at a later date? If so, be sure to let me know so I can select an appropriate canvas.
If you'd prefer to have me take care of the framing, please let me know & we can discuss options that will suit the painting and your space.
Take a look around the environment in which your painting will hang. What colours do you see? Is there a specific palette?
Snap photos of the space. Send them to hello@alexmooregibsonart.com so I can make note of existing furniture, artwork, colour palette, etc.
What previous work of mine draws you in? Send me screenshots of these works of art so I can get a sense of your style & aesthetic!
Commissions take an enormous amount of time and energy. I pour my heart and soul into each piece. With that in mind, spots are limited. Please understand that I ask for a non-refundable 30% deposit in order to start the process.
Once this deposit has been received…
I will create 2-3 loose sketches of proposed compositions, as well as a basic colour palette (this is a great time for you to have a say in the creative direction - if you want one!). Once you select which of the proposed sketches you'd like me to work from, the fun begins!
Over the next few months, I will be working on your special piece. Please take into consideration that although your commission is special to me, I am always working on a few commissions or a new series behind the scenes. Some commissions take me a lot less time than others; it all depends on the size of canvas, the subject matter I am working on, as well as how many other plates I am trying to balance at the same time.
During the time I work on your commission, I will touch base with 2 formal opportunities for us to discuss your piece. You will be provided with photos for your reference. This is a time that you are encouraged to provide constructive feedback, should you have any. Should any adjustments be requested (within reason), I will do my best to honour these requests.
After the second formal check-in, the painting is officially non-refundable. Please note that, for whatever reason, if you need to walk away from your project - the last chance to do so will be during our second check-in (call or e-mail) - I reserve the right to keep the non-refundable deposit as well as the right to sell the finished product myself.
Finally, it is important to note that the client will own the original commissioned painting upon full payment. Copyright and all other reproduction rights remain the property of the Artist.
