I've made a ton of birthday art this year. On a recent call with my agents, we were discussing areas of opportunity in my portfolio.
And there was a biiiiig gap in one major category: birthday art!
I had a bunch of collections of animals, hand lettering, hobbies, and other holidays, but only a handful of pieces dedicated to birthday celebrations. And this is one of the biggest categories in licensing, so I got to work to fill the gap in my portfolio.
I'm thrilled with how the collection turned out and I've had so much fun thinking of unique birthday card ideas.
And here's the thing. You don't need an agent to spot your portfolio gaps. Open up your own portfolio and ask yourself, “What's missing? What would a buyer come looking for that I'm not making yet?”
Being able to look at your own portfolio with a critical eye like that will serve you well in the long run!
