Do you ever feel like every day is the same as a WFH business owner?
Like you're doing the same things with your kids or the same marketing tasks haunt you week after week? And you can do it all easily without ever leaving your house?
Because same 🫠
We've been in a little rut lately. The kids have been sick off and on since May, and one morning last week, we were all feeling grumpy and stir crazy. So I decided to romanticize our daily neighborhood walk for my 4-year-old. Added just enough novelty to make it feel like something new.
Here's what we did:
🍄 I called it an adventure
It was just our usual walk around the neighborhood, but calling it an adventure had him intrigued.
🍄 He got to pick the snacks (and carry them)
I let him go to the pantry, choose snacks for him and his sister, and load them into his own backpack. If you have a four-year-old, you know how exciting this is lol.
🍄 He got to pick the direction
I knew we'd end up at the neighborhood playground either way, but letting him choose which streets to take meant he got to lead. He was thrilled.
🍄 We did a snack picnic at the park
Normally, we just play and head home for a snack. This time, we actually stopped and ate there. He got to take everything out and set it up for his sister, too. (I literally don't know why we don't do this all the time?!)
We didn't go anywhere new or buy anything extra. It was our same routine, with just a little whimsy, and it made all the difference.
I need this reminder for my marketing tasks too.
Especially Pinterest. Creating graphics and scheduling pins can get tedious fast. And when you're doing it for yourself and clients, it adds up quickly.
So I romanticize it by making an event of it.
Right now, that looks like rewatching Ted Lasso (getting ready for the new season in August 🙌) and cracking open an Olipop. Just trying to make the task feel like a vibe so it's something I look forward to, instead of avoiding or procrastinating.
If Pinterest keeps getting pushed to the bottom of your to-do list, try this: make it feel like a vibe. Watch a comfort show, put on a new playlist, or move to the couch instead of your desk. Hit reply and tell me how you're going to romantize something you've been avoiding this week!
