The world is changing more than ever, it seems. Perhaps we should have some hope given the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, shaping an increase in energy and nutrients availability. Meanwhile, the contours of a very serious El Niño are flagged by scientists, leading to preparation for severe weather events and food crises. All in all, spring in the Northern hemisphere is a busy season, not only for Northern hemisphere agriculture, but also for our coalitions’ activities and meetings in national and global networks. – Ivo Demmers, Executive Director, NFP |

From dialogue to direction: What the Food Diamond Dialogues taught us What happens when you bring knowledge institutions, civil society organisations, government, and the private and financial sector together to discuss how the Netherlands can make more impact on food and nutrition security in Low & Middle Income Countries? Lasting impact starts from local demand, and the Diamond is a means to achieve it, not a goal in itself. This is one of our key takeaways from the Food Diamond Dialogue series, organised on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |

Strengthening international cooperation on salinity and freshwater challenges In June, dedicated food and water experts from across Europe, North Africa, and Asia gathered in Friesland for a two-day workshop. Organised by SALTA and SUSTAIN COST Action, the event created valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange between Dutch and International researchers, policymakers, farmers’ organisations, businesses, and development practitioners; all working on freshwater scarcity, drought, and salinisation. The diverse audience reflects both the growing urgency of salinity-related challenges, as well as widespread recognition that these challenges must be addressed through multistakeholder, international collaboration. Together with the Netherlands Water Partnership, NFP participated on behalf of the international salinity partnership, engaged in fruitful discussions with teams and partners from Egypt, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Senegal on opportunities for joint action and programme development. |
