ISSUE #38 | June 29, 2026

Welcome back to the At Work Tune Up, your insider’s playbook with practical, quick, tips on how to keep things healthy and productive at work.

We spend a lot of time at work. We should love it.

Let's get started.

This week's tip for your toolbox:

Create a bank of questions that become your signature questions to move your team forward.

Don't try to be the leader with the best answers.
Start asking the right questions.

Here is what happens when leaders get busy:
  • They move fast
  • They solve problems
  • They keep things moving.

Being busy and moving fast makes it easy to miss:
  • Team members who are quietly struggling
  • The idea nobody has said out loud yet
  • The process that stopped working two months ago.
Asking one question changes all of that. It takes less than two minutes.

This week's tune-up:

Ask each person on your team, individually, one question this week, instead of offering advice.

These are some of my favorites:
▶️ What's one thing that would make your work easier right now?
▶️ What needs to be true for _________ to happen?
▶️ What is the real challenge here for you?

That's it.

✅ Give your quieter team members a low-stakes way to speak up.
✅ Open the door to tell your team their experience matters to you.
✅ Surface the friction you did not know existed, becuase you're busy doing other things.

Here's how to make it work:
  • Ask 1:1, not in a group. You will get honest answers, not polished ones.
  • Ask it this week. In a check-in, a hallway conversation, a Slack message. Wherever you show up with your team.
  • Come up with a concrete solution. Specific, small action steps are the magic to move things forward.
  • Check in within a week. Make sure those specific, small steps are happening.
If you want to track comments and follow up, here's a handy tracker to make it easy for you to get started.

Most importantly, make a habit of asking good questions.
Try it. Let me know how it goes.

Follow me on Instagram for more tips on happy, healthy teams.
You'll be happy you did.

If this newsletter resonates with you, here are three more ways I can help:
  1. Follow me on LinkedIn or Instagram for bite-sized tips throughout the week (free).
  2. Work with me for 1:1 executive coaching or strategy consulting. Hit reply and I’ll send you a few questions to see if we’re a fit.
  3. Book me as a retreat facilitator or speaker. This week I booked two more summer retreats (Hello South Florida!) and I am booking up summer fast. You won't regret investing in time away from the office to reset. I'd love to work with you. Please reply to this email or email me directly.
I’m a teacher at heart, and love helping people get better at what they do.

Small changes make a big difference.

Just get started.

Miriam
