Black Label Designs is a creative direction and advisory studio working with hotel ownership groups, independent operators, and hospitality brands on repositioning, PIP strategy, brand alignment, and experiential activation. This is our thinking on what is actually shifting in the guest experience landscape and what it means for your property.

Most hotel and hospitality operators I talk to are still building for the guest they had in 2019. That guest does not behave the same way anymore. The way people arrive, linger, photograph, and decide whether to come back has shifted, and the spaces designed to impress five years ago are quietly the ones losing repeat bookings.

The problem rarely announces itself in your occupancy numbers first. It surfaces in reviews, in softening F&B spend, in feedback that calls a space dated or disconnected, even when the product and service are strong. Most properties are over-invested in the arrival moment and under-invested in every transition after it, and those transitions are where loyalty is actually built or lost.
What we run with ownership groups is a structured environment audit that maps the full guest journey and pinpoints exactly where the experience breaks down, room by room, moment by moment. It is not a renovation pitch. It is a revenue conversation about which spaces are working harder than they cost, and which ones are costing you returns.

This is exactly what we worked through on the Sochi Hotel repositioning, where the real problem was not the rooms but the flow between them, mapping guest and staff movement before we touched the brand or the interiors.

Hi, I'm Pria. I founded BLD over a decade ago and hold a hotel planning and design certification from Cornell. Most of my work now lives at the intersection of brand, space, and revenue strategy for hotels that are either preparing for a PIP, navigating a repositioning, or trying to close the gap between what their property promises and what the guest actually experiences. If anything in this newsletter landed close to home, I'd genuinely love to connect. Reply here or grab 30 minutes below.

Where This Is Already Showing Up

The minibar is being rewritten, generic snacks giving way to localized, artisanal offerings, with wellness essentials like face rollers and electrolytes now standard, sometimes complimentary. Wellness itself has moved past the spa: sleep, recovery, hormonal health, and social health are the ask, delivered through functional beverages, targeted nutrition, and practitioner access built into the stay.

Merch has stopped being a logo on a shirt; the brands getting it right are designing pieces guests actually want to keep wearing, which makes it a brand integration decision, not a gift shop afterthought. And social space is back in demand, with guests wanting small, intentional gatherings inside the property, turning common areas into revenue space instead of pass-through space.

None of these are amenity upgrades. They're guest-journey decisions, and they're exactly the layer our environment audits are built to catch before it shows up in a review or a softening F&B line.
