Hi First name / Slothy!,
July 4th got me thinking about independence, and what it actually costs.
I'm an Aquarius, and if you know that sign, you know I like doing things my own way. My parents will tell you all about it if you give them the time. I don't think I have all the answers, but for a long time I acted like I had to find every one of them by myself.
Growing up, that worked. Good grades. Graduated on time. Landed high-paying jobs. People knew they could count on me. Independence built my whole track record.
But somewhere along the way, that same independence started taking something from me: my freedom.
I found myself wound tight, worried, and perpetually stressed. I'd feel guilt or shame the minute I goofed off a little too much or took too long a break.
Here's what I didn't understand back then. Doing everything alone isn't the same as being free. It just looks like freedom from the outside.
Real freedom is a mindset. It means being okay with not knowing everything. It means letting people help you, and not treating that as losing control. Support is actually how you regain more control.
You can control what's in your realm and zone of genius way better when you're not bogged down with things you have no business having to figure out.
I see this with my clients all the time. The ones who finally bring in help for their marketing, Asana, or their home aren't giving something up. They're making room to actually run their business, or actually enjoy their space, instead of carrying it all alone.
Sometimes a little support is exactly what lets you keep doing your thing independently. You can't fully have one without the other.
If you've been carrying something alone that doesn't need to be carried by you specifically, take this as your nudge. Support isn't a threat to your independence. It's what makes it last.
XOXO,
Renee
