I sent out a survey last week. I wasn't sure if anyone would take the time to fill it out but over 500 of you did.
I made a brew and read through every single response. It showed me that you care about the work I do and why I do it. Here's some of what I learned.
What you're already buying
Greeting cards and prints are still the favourites. A lot of you mentioned that you buy things for yourselves just as much as you do for others. I was surprised to see how many people don't wait for an occasion like a birthday or Christmas. You buy something when it catches your eye or reminds you of someone.
What you want to see more of
Architecture was the top request for new designs. You want to see more brutalism, landmarks and unique buildings. Music, the seaside and surprise me were also high on the list.
New products on your wishlist
Coasters, bone china mugs, fabric by the metre and bookmarks were high on the list of requests. I can't make everything but this gives me a much better idea of the products you want to see.
What you want from this newsletter
You don't want me to send constant sales pitches. You want to see new work before anyone else and hear about the stories or processes behind the designs. A lot of people asked for more updates on Pete the cat. He's now demanding a treat bonus and shorter working hours.
What happens next
This survey has given me the kick up the bum I needed. I have pages of notes and a much clearer plan for what comes next. I've already made some changes to my website which should make browsing easier.
Thank you for taking the time to help me out. I'm excited about my small business again and I can't wait to make new work.
More soon...
