Weeklong family reunion: cousins of all ages, zero screens, and pure 90s summer magic. |
|
Hi, friends! We need to talk about June (and early July!). Because honestly? It's been a complete, beautiful whirlwind of a month. Literally 48 hours after my son wrapped up 3rd grade, we were on a plane to London and Paris. But because I apparently love a chaotic-but-wonderful timeline, the day before we left, we had the FOX New Day Cleveland crew out here at Laurel Run to film a tv segment! It aired a couple of weeks ago while we were away, but if you missed it, you can catch the full clip right HERE. (Our part starts right around the 14-minute mark if you want to skip ahead!). Then, with the suitcases packed, we fully immersed ourselves in European magic. (And yes, I absolutely smuggled some pastry secrets back for you – more on that in a second.) |

Research and development looks a lot like taste-testing our way through Paris. Can’t wait to share what I learned on August 8th at our macaron class! |

We landed right back home into the thick of mom life: sports camps, chaotic pool parties, anniversary & birthday celebrations, and then... the ultimate grand finale. We just wrapped up a week-long 4th of July family reunion here at the property. We had family fly in from all corners of the country – four generations all together, spanning from our sweet 5-month-old baby cousin to my incredible 98-year-old grandma. It felt like a total nostalgic 90s-style summer. No screens. Just cousins running wild, swimming, fishing in the pond, riding the go-cart, eating way too much ice cream, and catching lightning bugs at dusk. When the evening thunderstorms rolled in, we all huddled up together on the front porch just watching the rain and continuing our long-awaited catch-ups. Now, the dust is settling, and I’m trying to get back into the swing of things while holding onto that grounded, slow-summer energy. The kitchen is officially open again at Laurel Run Cooking School, and I’ve channeled all that travel inspiration and summer nostalgia into our upcoming July and August lineup. Seats are already starting to fill up, and trust me, you aren't going to want to miss these: |

We’re heading outside for an evening picnic in the orchard. The best part? You get to completely relax. Because of the intricate menu timeline, I’m handling the heavy lifting. You get to sit back, sip something crisp, and watch the sunset while I demonstrate how to craft dishes like an authentic, gorgeous Confit Byaldi and savory, slow-caramelized Provençal Pissaladière. It’s casual French luxury at its finest. If your soul needs a reset button, this is it. We are gathering for live-fire cooking, rewilding activations, yoga, and a deeply restorative sound bath. It’s the ultimate day to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with yourself. My talented friend Dena Fisher is coming to clear up all your sourdough anxiety. You’ll leave confident, well-fed, and ready to bake your own gorgeous loaves. This one is close to my heart. Fresh off my trip to Paris – where I literally took a masterclass myself – I'm bringing the exact technical secrets back to our kitchen. If you’ve ever been intimidated by macarons, we are going to conquer them together! We also have two highly anticipated kids' programs coming up in August to keep the hands busy and the screens off: a fun, creative culinary camp for the younger chefs (ages 7–12), and a dedicated kitchen-confidence masterclass for teens (ages 13–18). Plus, our ever-popular Summer’s Bounty class will be back to celebrate the absolute best of what’s popping up in the garden right now. I'm keeping the vibes relaxed but the menus incredible. Check out the full schedule, grab your friends, and secure your spot before the kitchen fills up. See you in the kitchen (or the orchard!), Laura |
