Happy Sunday Everyone! This week I want to talk about grief again. This keeps coming up because so many people are experiencing grief in many different forms and sometimes we are just not sure how to navigate it. The problem is that most people usually associate grief with the loss of a loved one so if the grief is over something other than that people can and do dismiss it as not as important or serious. But the fact is there are all kinds of grief like the ending of a relationship, losing a home, losing a career, children moving out of the home, pet dying, illnesses, and some people's grief can be quite traumatic for them, and the list goes on and on. But what I am finding is that people who are grieving do not always have a person they can turn to, to talk about their grief and pain. And even when they do have people those people run out of patience after awhile or instead of listening they want to “fix” it. The best approach I find when supporting someone who is grieving is for me to shut up and listen to their grief story. I will ask them what they need from me at that moment. It could be anything from a cup of coffee and conversation, it could simply be a hug and reassurance that it will be ok. But I ask them instead of assuming I know what they need. Fortunately for the North Country people who are grieving, regardless of what the grief is now have a safe place to tell their stories thanks to Stephanie Weiner aka The Warrior Queen. Last month Stephanie started a program called Story Slam: Grief and Loss and it was held at the Whitefield Library. This event was so successful people have been requesting for more. So, Stephanie, being the warrior that she is, decided to offer this program again in different communities. Coming up on August 11th this program will be offered at St. Paul's in Lancaster from 6-8 pm. Please see below for the flyer! Registration is required. If you or you know someone who is grieving please consider this event. It is a wonderful way for people to share their stories in a safe and supportive environment and more importantly to realize you are NOT alone. Also, know that I am also here to support your grief stories as well. May we all understand that for many grief can be a hard event to live with and even harder when you feel judged because of it. May all those experiencing grief find their inner peace again. My office hours are Sunday, Monday, and Tuesdays from 10 - 6 PM. Scheduling is available online via my website which is back up and running. Sessions for Spiritual Counseling are held at my home office or by virtual chat. I do have cats and understand some people have allergies, if that is the case, we can chat virtually. If you have additional questions about Spiritual Counseling/Guidance and if it is for you, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at spiritualpathwaysnh@gmail.com.
