Happy Sunday Everyone! This week I want to talk about human ego. One reason I meditate is to keep my ego in check. Ego's, in my opinion, is one the most destructive forces to humanity. Everything and I mean everything happening in our world today, not just our country is all because of egos.

 

Ego tells us that you are the only thing that matters, that no one is more important than you. Ego can fill us with empowerment (not in a positive way) or fear. The ego voice is the one voice we have that lies. It is also the loudest voice in our bodies.

 

Have you stopped to check on your ego? Do you have an attitude of entitlement? Do you feel other people's lives and happiness do not matter? Do you allow your ego to talk you out of opportunities because that voice tells you that you are not good enough? 

 

I used to be extremely egotistical (I know hard to believe, but it's true.) I truly did not care about other people because my ego told me they did not impact me at all what happened to them. I thought it was my job to knock people off their high horse, but never once saw that I was on my own high horse. 

 

Because of my ego I was not a nice person. I was extremely confrontational and never backed down from a fight whether it was verbal or physical. I caused a lot of harm over the years and wasn't even aware of it. My ego blinded me to my own pain and the pain of others. My ego would say “well they got what they deserved.”

 

I am so grateful today that I learned about my ego and how it caused me to believe and act out towards other people. When we are listening to our egos, guess what, you aren't listening to anyone else.  

 

Watch what is really happening today in our world. No one is listening to anyone. Our government, churches, lawmakers, civilians. People walk by people in need and say to themselves, not my problem. Well if it isn't our problem as a collective then whose problem is it?

 

Ego separates us and keeps us from seeing each other as one species - human beings. Instead our ego separates people based on beliefs, color, sex, sexual orientation. Ego tells you that you are superior than them because …..

 

But the truth is no one is more superior than someone else. We are all the same, some people have more struggles in life, but not because of who they are, because of who society says they are and what they deserve.

 

I know when my ego is not in check because I become angry and judgmental and I don't like that part of me. It is important for me to keep my ego in check and the only way I found that works for me is meditation and staying in touch with the spiritual (whatever spiritual means to you.)

 

Today I see people for who they are, soul beings doing their best to survive their incarnation on Earth. I see everyone as an equal, not a threat, not an inferior, but an equal.

 

How does your ego impact your life and your views? Are you aware of your egos voice or are you so completely unaware that you are border on egomaniac? Whenever you place yourself in a position of superiority you are acting in ego.  

 

This week I challenge you to pay attention to that ego voice. What does it say about you and other people? Has your ego talked you out of opportunities you wished you took? Does your ego keep you from finding joy in life?

 

You can learn to quiet that ego voice and I hope you all manage to do that for life is so much more peaceful without it. Today I am grateful that my ego no longer runs my life and I was able to change the type of person I am. Part of my process included making amends where possible to all those I caused harm to. 

 

May we all learn and behave like one species and stop the fear mongering and judging. Let's quiet those ego voices.
