Beautiful May!
When we read His word it says to meditate on His word day and night (Psalms 1:2), but that can seem a little bit daunting. How are we suppose to do that but also have it be the good stuff, the positive thoughts, the praise worthy things? Consider how often we do the alternative. We wake up thinking about all that the day has for us, usually stressed, anxious, maybe even depressed. As the day continues we shuffle along through mundane tasks and our minds are rolling with typically negative or pressing thoughts. Thoughts that say: “How am I going to pay this bill? What am I going to do about _______? Am I even doing this right? When will this situation ever end? I can't believe so and so said this to me." Can you think of how your inner dialogue has been today or even this week?
To mediate on something doesn't mean to sit on a pillow with your legs cross, eyes closed and humming. Meditating is a mental exercise focused on your thoughts for a long duration of time. We mediate on a regular basis whether we know it or not, but what we are reflecting on or contemplating is up to us. We are so very capable of thinking on what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy. We have the ability to create new pathways in our brains to think on the good. We have been given the mind of Christ! Read His word, speak His truth out loud and you will begin to see your mind be renewed!
