Taking Back Control: Money & Self-Trust

Hi friend,

7 years ago, my divorce forced me to take ownership of my finances.

At the time, it felt extremely intimidating. I was already rebuilding my life, raising three boys and trying to figure out who I was in this next chapter.

Now I also had to understand investments, budgets, cash flow and monthly reconciliations.

There was so much I didn't know.

Last month I used AI to help me step back and analyze my entire financial picture. I expected a conversation about investments and spending. Instead, it reflected something much bigger.

I sat down looking for practical answers. Was I spending intentionally? Were there smarter decisions I could be making? Could my money work harder?

Instead, I found myself reflecting on something completely different.

Looking at everything in one place, I realized my finances were telling the story of the woman I've become.

I saw someone investing in experiences with her boys while they're still all under one roof.

Someone choosing health, learning and meaningful work.
Someone intentionally building a life that feels aligned with what matters most.

That wasn't something I had set out to prove. It was simply there.

And it made me proud.

Over the past 7 years, every question I've asked, every financial decision I've made and every new thing I've learned has quietly built something far bigger than financial knowledge.

It built trust in myself.

I've also come to believe that more women need to have open conversations about money.

Not to compare incomes or impress anyone.

To ask questions. To learn. To understand our options.
To take ownership of a part of our lives that can feel overwhelming.

For many of us, we've spent years carrying the mental load of family life while someone else took care of the finances. That was certainly my experience.

Taking ownership of mine has been one of the most empowering things I've done.

It didn't happen overnight. It happened one decision at a time.

This months insight

I don't think this conversation is really about money.

I think it's about authority.

So many women spend years becoming the CEO of everyone else's lives.

We manage the family calendar. The school forms. The appointments. The holidays. The emotional wellbeing of everyone around us. And our own work.

Meanwhile, investments, retirement planning or long-term finances often become someone else's responsibility.

Whether you're married, divorced or single, I believe every woman deserves and needs to understand her own financial life.

This is not coming from a place of fear prepping for the worse case scenario.

It's because understanding and knowledge creates choice.

Choice creates confidence.

And confidence spills into every other part of your life.

Looking back, I'm genuinely grateful.

It taught me something much bigger.

It taught me that confidence is built every time we're willing to learn something we once believed was beyond us.

I've seen this over and over again in coaching.

When a woman starts trusting herself in one area, she starts trusting herself everywhere.
How to Take Your Authority Back
(For Real)

You don't need to overhaul your entire financial life this weekend.

Start smaller.

1. Get curious instead of intimidated.

You don't have to know everything.

You just have to be willing to ask one more question than you asked yesterday.

And I'll take it one step further - keep asking questions until you get it.

Yes I know it can feel embarrassing we don't get it but who the heck cares.

Our future matters more than what our own insecurities are getting loud about.

2. Understand one thing you've been avoiding.

One investment.
One savings account.
One retirement statement.
One monthly expense.

Confidence grows through understanding, not perfection.

3. Remember what this is really about.

You're not learning finances so you can become an expert.

You're learning because your future deserves your attention.

Every question you ask is another step toward trusting yourself and the door to agency.
