There have been several moments in my life when I found myself in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. Some people call it coincidence. Others call it synchronicity. I simply know that these moments have taught me that when we live with an open heart and a willingness to serve, life has a remarkable way of placing us where we are needed.

Years ago, a friend of mine taught scriptwriting and filmmaking at the School of Visual Arts while pursuing his own career as a filmmaker. Our friendship had already grown stronger after I helped him recover a film that everyone thought had been lost. It hadn't disappeared at all—it had simply been filed in the wrong container in the film library. Sometimes the answer isn't missing; it's simply waiting to be seen from a different perspective.

Later, he invited me to speak to one of his scriptwriting classes. I was honored and excited. The students were engaged, curious, and eager to participate. Everyone, that is, except one young man sitting in the back of the room.

His arms were folded tightly across his chest. He leaned back in his chair, disconnected from the rest of the class. His expression reflected sadness, hurt, and confusion. He didn't volunteer, ask questions, or join the discussion.

I gently asked him if there was something about the exercise that made him uncomfortable, and if there was any way I could help.

He looked at me and quietly said, "My thoughts are very dark. Really dark. They even scare me."
Without thinking, I answered, "I have two words for you."
"What are they?" he asked.
"Stephen King."

Instantly, everything changed.
His face brightened. A smile replaced the heaviness he had been carrying. He almost laughed aloud. The entire room relaxed with him, smiling and laughing together. In one brief exchange, he realized he wasn't alone. Having dark thoughts didn't mean there was something wrong with him. Some of the world's greatest storytellers have explored the darkest corners of imagination and transformed them into creativity, insight, and even hope.

That young man became my teacher that day.
He reminded me how important acceptance really is—not just accepting other people, but accepting ourselves.

We all have thoughts that surprise us. We all have emotions we'd rather not admit. We all have shadows. The goal isn't to pretend they don't exist. The goal is to recognize that our thoughts do not define our character. What matters is what we choose to do with them.

I've always had a bit of an edge myself. Maybe that's one reason a detective once recognized something in me and believed I could work alongside law enforcement. As it turned out, I was capable of handling situations I never imagined I could face. Looking back, I realize I didn't know my own strength until life asked me to use it.

I suspect that's true for all of us.

We often underestimate ourselves because we haven't yet been tested. We assume our limits long before we've reached them. Yet when life presents the challenge, we frequently discover reserves of courage, compassion, resilience, and wisdom we never knew we possessed.
Perhaps that's one reason synchronicity happens. We are placed where we need to be—not because we're perfect, but because we're willing. A simple conversation, a few encouraging words, or even two unexpected words can completely change someone's day, or perhaps even the direction of their life.

The benefit of living this way is profound. When we stop judging ourselves and others, we become available to life's quiet miracles. We begin to notice meaningful coincidences. We become more compassionate because we recognize that everyone is carrying something unseen. And we discover that loving service often asks for nothing more complicated than being present and responding with kindness.

You never know when you'll be the right person in the right place at the right time.

And just as importantly, you never know when someone else will become your teacher in the very moment you thought you were teaching them.

❤️How has a simple act of kindness brought joy into your life?

Gathering™. Essential Oil. Blend.

Soul Perspective

This week's article reminds us that life is filled with quiet opportunities to encourage, uplift, and brighten another person's day. We rarely know the full impact of a smile, a thoughtful conversation, or a simple act of kindness. Yet those seemingly ordinary moments often become extraordinary in someone else's life.

Gathering beautifully reflects the spirit of meaningful connection. Its aroma encourages us to be fully present, to notice the people crossing our path, and to trust that even the smallest gestures of compassion can create lasting ripples. When we lead with kindness instead of expectation, we often discover that the greatest blessing flows in both directions.

How to Use Acceptance™

  • Diffuse: Diffuse before meetings, community gatherings, volunteer activities, or whenever you want to create a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Inhale: Place a drop in your palms, rub together gently, and inhale while setting the intention to be fully present for whoever crosses your path today.

  • Topical: Dilute with a carrier oil and apply to the heart space, wrists, or the bottoms of the feet.

  • Ritual idea: Before leaving home, pause for a quiet moment and ask, "May I be exactly where I'm needed today." Carry that intention with you and remain open to the unexpected ways kindness may unfold.
