November can feel like a month we’re just trying to get through — with fall transitions, rising demands, and the early wave of social events. Even a single holiday meal can bring unexpected stress. Whether you’re navigating family dynamics, social pressure, or just trying to stay grounded, emotional wellbeing matters more than ever this time of year. That’s why we’re spotlighting Dr. Carrie Gottlieb — a NEWH-member recommended clinical psychologist known for her thoughtful, evidence-based approach. Her work helps women manage anxiety, strengthen relationships, and reconnect with themselves in midlife. |

Q: For women who find holiday events overwhelming — whether because of family dynamics, social anxiety, or simple burnout — what is one practical tip you often share to help manage that stress? A: Set boundaries!! It is more than okay to say no or turn down an invitation (or two) when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Setting limits doesn’t mean avoiding connection or skipping your mother’s annual Thanksgiving dinner — it simply means being intentional about where you invest your time and energy. Choose the gatherings that feel most meaningful, and give yourself permission to let the rest go. |

Q: You work with a range of concerns, from anxiety and depression to perinatal and fertility-related issues. How do you tailor your approach to support women navigating the unique pressures of midlife? A: I’ve always worked in women’s health, and with midlife women, it’s important to recognize and build on the strength that comes from their life experiences. By this stage, many have managed careers, families, relationships, and personal challenges, often all at once, and they tend to underestimate their own resilience. In therapy, I focus on helping them identify those strengths while also acknowledging the stress, loss, or change that can come with this stage of life. It’s about striking a balance between honoring what they’ve already learned and finding new ways to support their well-being moving forward. |
