A Note From the Team

As we settle into summer and say goodbye to the first half of 2026, we've been reflecting on what has already been a rewarding year at Colorful Concepts Interior Design. Over the past several months, we've celebrated the completion of incredible projects, such as the Lake Gaston family home we gave you a sneak peek of in our last newsletter. We're also thrilled to share the final photography from another special project below — a renovated 1950s Raleigh ranch that has been a labor of love for many years now for both our team and our wonderful client.

 

Of course, many other projects continue to take shape, each one specific to the families who will call them home. There's nothing quite like seeing years of planning, collaboration, and craftsmanship culminate in spaces that are as beautiful as they are deeply personal.

 

In this edition, you'll also find another installment of our FAQ series, where we're answering some of the questions we're most frequently asked about our firm, our design process, and our team. Rather than relocating, our client chose to invest in the home she and her fur-baby already adored, aiming to craft a more functional and luxurious primary suite while preserving the timeless charm that first made her fall in love with the property. An additional feature CCID designed was the expanded front porch, creating a spot perfect for relaxing on a lovely NC evening.

 

The primary suite addition transformed what was once a modest bedroom into a true retreat, complete with a spacious new ensuite bathroom, an expanded walk-in closet, and a cozy reading nook framed by custom built-ins. By vaulting the ceiling into the existing attic space, we dramatically enhanced the room's sense of volume, resulting in an airy, light-filled sanctuary that feels both expansive and restorative.

 

Before construction on the primary suite addition began, we completed the first phase of the renovation several years earlier: a full kitchen remodel. The original kitchen felt closed off, dark, and dated, so our goal was to make it feel significantly larger without dramatically altering the original footprint. By removing portions of two walls to open the kitchen to the adjacent living and dining room, thoughtfully reworking the layout, relocating the laundry area, introducing custom cabinetry, and layering refined finishes with clean lines, we transformed the once-cramped space into one that feels bright, open, and welcoming. The kitchen is now a fresh modern-traditional aesthetic that flows nicely with the rest of the home while honoring the spirit of this classic Raleigh ranch.

 

Back inside the primary suite, every selection was carefully curated to reflect our client's fun-loving personality and lifestyle. From the bold color palette — including a custom fuchsia headboard — to the well-appointed closet with generous storage for an extensive shoe and hat collection, every detail was tailored to her daily life. One of our favorite features is the striking monstera leaf wallpaper accent wall, which draws the eye upward and nicely accentuates the newly vaulted ceiling.

 

The primary bathroom was designed to feel serene, casual, and effortlessly elegant. Forgoing a bathtub allowed us to incorporate a spacious walk-in shower, while the soft teal tile introduces a calming layer of color. A custom window valance subtly echoes the patterns and hues found in the adjacent bedroom, creating a seamless connection between the spaces. Throughout the suite, each color, texture, and material was intentionally chosen to add depth while maintaining a cohesive, timeless aesthetic.

 

The result is a vibrant, highly personalized home that celebrates our client's love of color while also blending beauty, function, and enduring design. Bringing this vision to life was a true collaborative effort, and we're grateful to have partnered with the talented team at Armature Design Build. Their outstanding craftsmanship, professionalism, and commitment to quality helped transform the design into a beautifully executed reality.

Project timelines vary greatly depending on scope, complexity, and budget. At the beginning of each project, Team CCID works with our clients to establish a realistic timeline and key milestones, while keeping desired move-in dates or special events in mind.

 

Although we do everything we can to help meet those goals, we cannot guarantee a firm completion date. Instead, we focus on proactive planning, clear communication, and close collaboration with builders, contractors, and trade partners to keep projects progressing as smoothly as possible. We always make every reasonable effort to accommodate important milestones and events, but when unexpected delays arise, our priority is delivering an exceptional finished product rather than compromising craftsmanship or design quality.

 

Several factors can influence a project's timeline, including permitting and inspections, contractor and trade schedules, product manufacturing and shipping lead times, custom fabrication, and unforeseen conditions uncovered during construction. Design revisions or changes made after work is underway, as well as delays in client feedback, decision-making, or scheduling, can also extend the timeline.

 

While some of these factors are outside anyone's control, Team CCID proactively coordinates with contractors, vendors, and manufacturers throughout the process to minimize delays whenever possible and keep clients informed every step of the way.

While our client appreciated her home's abundant natural light and traditional architecture, the kitchen and adjoining living space no longer supported the way she wanted to live. Her vision was a luxurious yet inviting home that combines contemporary design with timeless elements while showcasing the antiques, artwork, and travel mementos she had collected over the years.

 

The renovation focused on improving the flow between the home's main living areas. Structural columns separating the kitchen and living room were removed to establish a more open, connected floor plan, while the kitchen itself was completely redesigned with custom two-toned cabinetry extending to the ceiling, a spacious island with seating, upgraded appliances, a beverage refrigerator, and generous drawer storage. Our lighting plan features elegant Visual Comfort pendants above the new island, complemented by a Hudson Valley Lighting chandelier that creates a striking focal point in the adjacent dining area.

 

Throughout the rest of the first floor, Team CCID introduced a fresh color palette, updated lighting, and carefully curated furnishings that balance sophistication with everyday comfort. An American Leather reclining sofa invites effortless relaxation without compromising on style, complemented by Currey & Company and Visual Comfort floor lamps that create a warm, layered ambiance. A generously scaled Hickory White swivel lounge chair creates a comfortable spot for conversation, while Vanguard cocktail and end tables anchor the seating area with timeless style. A textured Surya area rug and collected accessories — including a stunning vintage purple glass platter, a nod to both our client's and Sally's favorite color — add personality and a vibrant splash of color. From the reupholstered dining chairs to thoughtfully integrated display areas for family photographs and treasured travel keepsakes, every detail reflects our client's story and the way she lives today.

 

We enjoyed collaborating with Quality Design and Construction to bring this renovation to life, helping transform the space into a home that feels bright, welcoming, and effortlessly livable — a reminder that great design goes beyond aesthetics to enrich everyday living. By blending thoughtful renovations with beautifully scaled furnishings and meaningful décor, the home now supports the next chapter of our client's life while honoring everything she loved about it from the beginning.
