Rochester Ready

First-year students, it's time to register!

First-year course registration opens today and tomorrow at 9 a.m. (EDT). While we hope everything goes smoothly, here's what to do if you run into issues:

Double-check that the appropriate holds have been lifted from your UR Student (Workday) account:
  • Advisor hold: This should have been lifted by your advisor after they approved your fall semester schedule. If not, email your advisor directly or contact the Center for Advising Services (CAS) at 585-275-2354.
  • Onboarding tasks hold: This is removed once you have completed your onboarding tasks, which you should have done upon enrollment. If you still need to complete them, you can view instructions on the new student checklist.
  • Bursar's office hold: This means there is an issue with the finances associated with your account. Please reach out to the Bursar's Office directly.
Check your course selections for the following issues:
  1. Time conflicts
  2. Instructor permission needed: You can request instructor permission by following these instructions.
  3. Number of seats left in the class: If a class has reached capacity and is closed, you can email the instructor directly. Please note that you will likely not receive a response right away as instructors are busy preparing for the semester.
Reach out to your assigned college advisor. They can access your academic records to help you determine what available course sections will work best for your academic goals. If your advisor is unavailable, you can call CAS at 585-275-2354

Looking for a student perspective? Your Orientation Leaders are hosting a Zoom Room on both registration days from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. (EDT).

For technical issues, contact the UR Student Technical Support Team at 585-275-2000 or univithelp@rochester.edu.

Here's the scoop on textbooks.

UR Essentials, the University's textbook program in partnership with Barnes & Noble, ensures you receive all required textbooks and course materials before your first day of classes.

Instead of buying your textbooks separately, the cost for all required materials is covered through your tuition payment. Physical books will be bundled for easy pick-up and digital materials will be available through Blackboard.

After you register for classes in UR Student, Barnes & Noble will contact you at your URochester email address. You will receive two emails:
  1. 24 hours after registering: account setup and confirming your materials
  2. Once your items are ready: notification that your materials are ready for pickup
Please note: If the Barnes & Noble email gives you the option to have the materials shipped directly to you at home, please make sure to select in-store pick-up instead, as the materials will likely be delivered after you've already left home for campus.

Limited spots left!

Only a few spots are left to join a URochester faculty or staff member for a meal in one of our all-you-can-eat campus dining centers during Welcome Week.

Taking place on New Student Arrival Days (Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25), these meals offer the opportunity to chat one-on-one with a faculty or staff member about academics, campus life, internship opportunities, and more!

Advance registration is required by Friday, August 7. Please make sure to confirm your move-in date and time slot prior to selecting a meal period on the form.

A note about next week.

Next week's issue of Rochester Ready will be the last of the summer, and will include last-minute reminders, arrival instructions, parking information, and a link to download the Welcome Week app.

We hope this publication has helped you feel better prepared for your first semester at the University. We can't wait to see you on campus in less than two weeks!

Add these dates to your calendar.
We know there are a lot of dates to remember, so we'll include this section in each issue to highlight important upcoming event dates and deadlines from the new student checklist and timeline pages on our website.
