Have you ever been sewing a stitch and flip block and then realized you're cutting off and tossing out perfectly good triangles?

Me too.

This happened to me at quilt retreat recently, and I thought to myself… “Ya'know… I could just make an EXTRA Half Square Triangle here to save for later."

So I did!

With stitch and flips, you sew on the drawn line instead of ¼" away from it. So to make the extra HST, you'll want to sew ½" away from the drawn line on the other side so you can still have your seam allowance for both pieces!

Now you have an extra HST for each stitch and flip! Collect them all up until you can do something with them.

Make a sawtooth star! Make some pinwheels! Sew all your HSTs together into an HST hodgepodge of epic proportions! The world is your quilt top!

happy making
