I've been thinking a lot about patterns lately.

Not the obvious ones—the routines that get us through the day or the habits we've carefully built. I'm talking about the quieter patterns. The stories we repeat. The ways we respond before we've even realized we've made a choice.

We often assume that if a pattern breaks, something has gone wrong.
But what if that interruption is actually an invitation?

When I recently taught a class on patterns, I watched people discover this for themselves. A simple doodle became a forgotten memory. A single word opened an unexpected story. Someone who insisted they "weren't creative" remembered articles they'd published years ago.
Another found herself drawing circles over and over, only to realize she was sketching her way toward something she couldn't yet name.

None of us set out looking for those discoveries.
They arrived because we loosened our grip on what we thought should happen.

I've learned that life rarely moves in straight lines. It zigzags. It surprises us. Sometimes what feels like a detour is actually the path we've been trying to find.

That's one of the reasons I love journaling—not because it gives us answers, but because it teaches us how to ask better questions.

Questions like:

What is trying to emerge here?
What have I overlooked because I've been following the same path?
What if beginning again isn't failure, but wisdom?

This month, I'll be gathering with a new group for the next five 1-Hour Whispers of the Dream Bird Journal Workshop. While it's a different experience from the patterns class, it explores the same quiet territory where intuition, creativity, and unexpected insight begin to speak.

Not by telling you who you should become.
But by helping you hear the whispers of who you've been all along.

If that feels like the conversation you've been waiting for, I'd love to have you join us.

Sometimes the smallest shift in perspective opens an entirely new landscape.

In the joyful light of breaking patterns,
Nancy

Surrender™. Essential Oil. Blend.

Soul Perspective

A pattern begins to lose its power the moment we realize we don't have to keep participating in it.

Surrender doesn't mean giving up. Sometimes surrender is simply loosening our grip on the way we thought something was supposed to happen. When we stop following the same familiar path automatically, we create room for intuition, creativity, memories, and unexpected possibilities to emerge.

Nancy's exploration of patterns reminds us that interruptions aren't always mistakes. A doodle, a word, a forgotten memory, or even a detour can become an invitation to see ourselves differently. Surrender encourages us to become curious about those moments rather than immediately trying to put everything back the way it was.

Sometimes the path changes because we are ready to change with it.

Key Ingredients

Lavender oil, Lemon peel oil, Black spruce leaf oil, Roman chamomile flower oil, Angelica root oil, Mountain savory oil, Matricaria flower oil

How to Use Surrender™ Essential Oil:

  • Diffuse: Diffuse while journaling, creating, reflecting, or whenever you feel yourself slipping automatically into an old way of thinking.

  • Inhale: Place a drop in your palms, rub together gently, and inhale. With each exhale, imagine releasing one expectation about how something "should" unfold.

  • Topical: Dilute with a carrier oil and apply to the wrists, heart space, back of the neck, or bottoms of the feet.

  • Ritual idea: Open your journal to a blank page and write:

"What might happen if I don't do this the way I've always done it?"

Then doodle, write, draw circles, make marks, or simply follow whatever comes next without trying to make it meaningful. Let yourself be surprised.

    Soul Prompt Journaling Questions

  • What familiar story or response am I ready to stop repeating?

  • What might be trying to emerge if I loosen my grip on how I think things should happen?

    Affirmations

  • I release my attachment to the familiar.

  • I surrender to the possibility that another path is waiting to reveal itself.
