For the better part of a decade, we decorated our houses like nobody actually lived in them.
White kitchens. Gray everything. Perfectly coordinated furniture. Open shelves containing three beautiful plates that apparently no one was ever allowed to eat off of.
But lately, something has shifted — and frankly, we’re into it.
Home design is getting warmer, more personal and a whole lot less precious. Instead of asking, “Will this look dated in five years?” homeowners are starting to ask a much better question:
“Do I actually like living here?”
Here are a few ways the we actually live here house is making a comeback.

Please mark your calendar for Dumpster Day on Saturday, September 19th from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at our office. As always we will have plenty of helping hands to help unload your items and coffee and donuts for you to enjoy.
Next up is our First Annual (adults only) Halloween Party on Saturday, October 24th from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Chicken N Pickle OP. We will have complimentary food, an open bar, a costume contest, and plenty of spooky fun! It started with a simple question: Why doesn’t Kansas City celebrate its own area code?
“The first time it was brought to my attention was actually through a Facebook post,” 816 Day founder Brian “Bizzy” Benton says. A friend wondered why Kansas City didn’t have an official area code celebration like cities including St. Louis and Detroit. So in 2017, he made it happen.
“It just kind of grew into the beast that it is now,” Benton says. “I never had any major plans for it.”
This year’s 816 Day festivities will begin Thursday, August 13 and continue through the weekend with events at venues including Vine Street Brewing, Rock Island Bridge, The Combine and In Good Company before culminating in the free festival on Sunday at Power & Light. Read full article.
