When Tom invited my husband and me to Yankee Stadium, he had no idea he was giving me much more than a day at the ballpark. He was bringing me full circle.

My love affair with baseball began long before that invitation.
When I was about ten years old, baseball season meant racing home from school to catch the game on our little television. If there was time before school, I'd hurry around the corner and stand outside the apartment building where Gil Hodges lived, hoping to see him come out. Sometimes I did. Sometimes I didn't. It didn't matter. Just knowing he lived nearby made baseball feel real.

When I was six, we moved to East 45th Street in Brooklyn. It was a short block with cross streets at each end, so traffic was light enough for neighborhood kids to claim it as our own playground.

The neighborhood boys—Michael, Alan, Stephen, and I—spent countless afternoons playing stickball in the street. We also played "skelsy," flicking bottle caps across chalk-drawn game boards on the pavement until someone won. We made our own fun.

I was the classic tomboy.
I loved riding my bicycle, getting dirty, competing with the boys, and being part of the team. Nobody treated me differently, and I never expected them to. We were simply kids having the time of our lives.

Looking back, I realize those games taught me much more than how to hit a ball.
They taught me teamwork.
They taught me that everyone has a role to play, that victories are shared, and that sometimes you strike out—but you show up again tomorrow.
Those lessons stayed with me for the rest of my life.

Years later, when Tom surprised us with those tickets to Yankee Stadium, I thought we were simply going to see a baseball game.
I couldn't have been more wrong.

We drove into a private parking area I never knew existed. We entered through a private entrance, rode a private escalator, and were escorted to a luxury box directly behind home plate.

There we were, watching Darryl Strawberry and Andy Pettitte play an unforgettable game from seats I never could have imagined occupying as a little girl playing stickball in Brooklyn.

The experience was even more meaningful because it brought me back to my old neighborhood. After spending two years living in Puerto Rico, my family had moved to 800 Grand Concourse in the Bronx, only about five blocks from Yankee Stadium. I hadn't been back there in years.

Life had quietly brought me home.
And all because I had said yes.
Yes to becoming a psychic detective.
Yes to writing a little book that I never expected anyone outside my clients would read.
Yes to meeting Tom Walker.
Yes to helping someone else pursue his dream, even though it wasn't originally mine.

Looking back, I realize that none of us travels life's path alone. Every person who comes into our lives leaves us with something valuable.
The boys I grew up with gave me the gift of teamwork.

Baseball taught me patience, resilience, and how every player matters.
Tom reminded me that friendships can open doors we never knew existed.

Even though our television project never came to life, I never considered the journey a failure. Some opportunities are meant to change us more than they are meant to succeed on paper.

Sometimes the greatest rewards aren't contracts or fame.
Sometimes they're unforgettable friendships, an afternoon at Yankee Stadium, childhood memories that never fade, and the realization that every heartfelt "yes" becomes another thread in the story of our lives.

So here's my question for you.

It may have seemed small at the time, but perhaps, looking back, you'll discover it led you exactly where you were meant to be.
