WHAT HAPPENS
IF YOU GET TIRED OF TRAVELING?

There are days when we are tired of traveling.

Not tired of being in Europe. Not tired of the life we chose. Just tired of packing, moving, figuring out another apartment, finding another grocery store, and learning how everything works all over again.

That is probably not the part people picture when they think about full-time travel, but it happens.

Sometimes you arrive somewhere and instead of feeling excited, you are mostly thinking about how nice it would be if you did not have to unpack. You already know that in a couple of weeks you will be putting everything back in the suitcase, checking out, getting to a station or airport, and starting over somewhere else.

When that happens, we have learned not to force it.

We do less. We may spend a day in the apartment, go to the same grocery store, eat something simple, and not make any effort to turn the day into a travel day.

Sometimes we also change the next plan.

If we have been moving too quickly, we look for somewhere we can stay a little longer. If the last few stops have been complicated, we try to make the next one easier. We may choose a place with better transportation, a simpler apartment, or somewhere that does not require much from us once we get there.

That has been one of the bigger lessons for us.

Getting tired of traveling does not always mean you are tired of the lifestyle. Sometimes you are just tired of moving, and there is a difference.

Travel can still be something you enjoy even when you do not want every week to feel like an adventure. We are not trying to avoid tired days. We are just trying not to mistake them for something bigger than they are.

We know there will be another city, another train, another place we have never seen before. We do not have to squeeze everything out of the one we are in now.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is make the next few days as easy as possible and let the excitement come back on its own.

Moving is one kind of tired. The paperwork that came after our visa was another kind entirely.
