Hi First name / Slothy!,
Every Thursday, my husband and I are SAT to watch “our clients” (as we so lovingly call them) make the biggest decision of their lives.
Show premise for those not in the know:
Two strangers meet at the altar and decide, right then, whether to marry someone they just met.
The wedding is the hook.
The real story is what happens after, when the experts push these couples into the hard conversations neither person wants to have.
What struck me the other night was that every time a couple has one of those hard conversations, they're essentially testing the relationship.
Pass the test, and the bond gets stronger. Skip it, and the distance grows.
We've probably all felt some version of this even though we're not embarking on a crazy relationship experiment.
- Avoiding the closet that's been driving you crazy because facing it feels like too much today.
- Letting a project plan live only in your head, because saying it out loud means admitting you missed something or it isn't working.
- Staying quiet instead of showing up online, because invisible feels safer than seen.
All of these are examples of tests you're putting yourself through. It's the classic will she or won't she be the change she wants!
The longer we put off the hard conversation, or the hard decision, the longer we stay stuck in a life we don't want.
Temporary discomfort feels like the worst thing in the world. But permanent discomfort is worse.
Every payoff has a payout.
Nothing worth having comes free or easy. There's always a hurdle first.
The best thing you can do is take on that hurdle on your terms, at your pace, and with someone who wants the best for you and will stick with you through it, whether that's a partner, a friend, or someone you hire to help you get there.
