Texas Woman’s University Is Making Its First Move Into Engineering

 

 

The move puts TWU — the nation’s largest university system primarily focused on women — into a field where women remain significantly underrepresented. Mechanical engineering, in particular, has historically had one of the widest gender gaps among engineering disciplines.

 

The proposed program will now move through additional approval and accreditation steps before enrollment begins.

The Houston-area credit union has elected Burke chair of its board of directors, making her the first woman to hold the position in TDECU’s 71-year history. 

 

Burke, a vice president at Dell Technologies, has served on TDECU’s board since 2021 and brings experience across technology, cybersecurity, privacy and corporate governance.

 

Her appointment comes as TDECU continues to grow its footprint and invest in technology and digital services for its more than 390,000 members.

The nonprofit helps build pathways that connect Texans to the skills, credentials and opportunities needed to move into higher-wage careers.

 

Aghazadian joins the organization after serving as a deputy commissioner at the Texas Education Agency, where she led strategy, operations and statewide initiatives. Her appointment comes as Economic Mobility Center plans to expand its work beyond Dallas County and build partnerships across Texas.
