Appropriately, my middle name is Joy, and I truly believe joy can be found in both extraordinary experiences and the simplest moments.
Recently, joy has looked like running through the park on a hot summer day and getting in a good, sweaty workout. I have become increasingly committed to fitness because it is no longer just something I do. It is part of my lifestyle.
Joy also looks like a good nap that allows me to recharge and refuel because, hello, menopause fatigue is real! It is traveling, particularly the moment the plane takes off. Something about that experience immediately puts me at ease, and sometimes puts me right to sleep. Some may see it as simply a flight, but I see it as a blessing to explore different parts of the country and world while continuing to discover more about myself.
One of my greatest sources of joy is impacting women’s lives through SurviveHER. Receiving a text that says, “I just got my mammogram,” reminds me that this work is changing lives.
Women often sacrifice joy because we are accustomed to prioritizing everyone else’s needs. I want to give women permission to choose joy without guilt.
Take the nap. Book the trip. Move your body. Laugh loudly with your family.
Joy is not selfish or optional. It restores us.
My list could go on because I truly find joy in everything. And that is my reminder to you this month: joy is all around us. You don't have to earn it. Sometimes, we just have to give ourselves permission to experience it.
Lakeisha Gallmon is the founder of Kakes with Kesh LLC, a growing baking business born from her love of creating delicious desserts and memorable experiences. As Keisha prepares to retire within the next year, she decided this was the perfect time to invest in herself and turn her passion for baking into a business that could carry her into the next chapter of her life.
A meaningful turning point came when Lakeisha attended the Support Your Girlfriends Pow(H)er Experience last November. Being surrounded by women who were pursuing their goals and genuinely encouraging one another gave her the motivation and confidence to take her own passion more seriously.
“The encouragement I received at Pow(H)er helped me believe that Kakes with Kesh could become more than something I simply enjoyed doing. It could become a successful business.”
As she steps into this exciting new season, Lakeisha's goal is to build Kakes with Kesh into a successful and sustainable business known for delicious desserts, quality service, and memorable experiences.

We brought a little pink magic to Martha’s Vineyard! 💗
Support Your Girlfriends partnered with SurviveHER for ReplenisHER, an unforgettable experience that brought together and poured into more than 200 women, with support from HERKind. The day was filled with joy, connection, wellness, and the kind of energy that happens when women intentionally create space to replenish themselves and one another.
Thank you to every guest, sponsor, and partner who helped make ReplenisHER such a beautiful success. This is what community looks like!
📍 CHAPTER UPDATES
The Girlfriend Sessions Are in Full Swing!
We kicked things off with our Atlanta Co-Chapter President, Modupé Rouse, and The Sisterhood Survival Toolkit, an honest conversation about building stronger relationships, navigating sisterhood, and becoming more intentional about how we show up for one another.
Then Lucinda Cross took us to the mic for Public Speaking & Message Clarity. We worked on identifying the big idea behind their stories, developing stronger messages, structuring keynotes, owning their expertise on panels, and creating the kind of sound bites people remember. Several members even stepped into the hot seat to practice their big ideas live and receive real-time feedback.
Two sessions down, and we're just getting started. Be sure to join us for the next one with Dr. Nikkia McClain! Trust us, you'll want to be in the room!
After more than 16 years of helping brands earn meaningful media coverage, our founder, Dr. Nikkia McClain, has officially launched the DIY PR App. Nikkia has always believed that public relations isn't luck. It's strategy. It's consistency. It's relationships. Inside the app, you'll learn how to build a media-ready brand, write compelling press releases, pitch journalists, build media lists, track your outreach, and become your own publicist.
