The last few weeks, I've had the privilege of working with a lot of different teams. It's had me thinking about a question: what does it actually take from each of us to be part of a truly successful team?
Everywhere I look, one answer keeps showing up: willingness.
I've watched people bring their willingness in a lot of different ways. A willingness to:
- Be aware of themselves and others
- Listen to understand
- Share what they're really thinking and choose how they share it
- Clarify their thinking when they're misunderstood
- Change their mind
- Be vulnerable
This sounds simple and it's not.
AND…people are far more likely to embody this willingness when they've decided how they want to show up before the team even gets together.
A Next Step
What on this list resonates with you? Think back to a team you were part of that was successful. What willingness did you bring that helped make that happen?
