CHECK-IN | WEEK 2 | DRY MATERIALS & TEXT
Sky
Week 2 is in full swing! Before I share a little more inspiration and what we've made so far this week, I wanted to let you know I created a photo gallery for us over on Flickr! To upload photos you'll need to have a Flickr account but you don't need one to view it. If you'd like me to upload a photo for you, please email it to me. View the gallery here!
  • How do people do this!? Watch Freefly Skydiving--amazing!
  • I love that a humble pencil can be used to create such intricate, detailed, realistic, and different illustrations, like these from Kei Meguro, Stanely Ejike Nwite, and Lui Ferreyra (click on drawing to see Lui's colored pencil pieces)
  • View some of the top 100 images from NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and remember, “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.” - Carl Sagan
  • Here's what's on our desks…

I'm planning on using the photo of the clouds with the bird silhouette (I feel so lucky when I snap a photo at just the right time to capture a bird in flight!) and adding colored pencil, water soluble pastels, crayon, and some embroidery to it. I'm hoping to begin working on it tomorrow!

Wherever you're at, whether it's wrapping up this week or working on week 1, keep at it! If life feels very full at the moment, create something small (use ¼ of your sketchbook page instead of a full sheet) or simple or both! (You can always add more later and spend more time on next week's piece.) It doesn't have to take hours or be complicated to be meaningful and to support your creative practice.

I hope you see something interesting in the sky today! :) Talk to you soon,
