Y'all. It is a steam bath down here.

 

I walked out to water my plants at seven this morning and came back in looking like I had been through a car wash. My hair had strong opinions about this heat. Our dog Dixie made it about forty feet down the driveway and turned back toward the air conditioning. How is it feeling at your house? 

 

This is the stretch of the year that tests every gardener I know. The spring containers have given out. The beds look tired. And the fall stuff we are all dreaming about, the pansies and the cabbages and the ornamental kale, is not ready for us yet. I'm looking forward to having them back soon. 

So we are in the uncomfortable in-between time when it's not yet cool for next season's plants. But, it is actually one of the most useful times of the whole year if you put your energy in the right place.
