Happy Sunday Everyone! This week I want to talk about fear of death and dying. The reason for this topic is because recently I had a conversation with an old school friend who is currently in hospice. She reached out to me because she is dying and she is scared.

Now my friend has always been a devote Catholic our entire lives, we received our sacraments together. She loves her church and her God. But when I asked her what she was most afraid of her answer was one I typically get from Christians - “I don't want to burn in hell.”

So, I asked her a few questions beginning with do you believe you are saved? Her answer was yes. I asked her if she believed she did the best she could in life? Her answer was “not perfect, but yes.” I asked her if she believed her God loved her? She answered yes.

After asking these questions I said to her so if you believe you are saved, loved, and that you did the best you could while on earth then how can you fear hell? She thought about this for a few and responded “because I now realize just how scary religion actually is and it has traumatized this moment for me.”

She then asked me how do I perceive heaven and hell. I simply told her that there is no hell, at least not the Christian version and there is no Christian Heaven either - sorry if this is a shocker to most.

I have never had a spirit come back to me and warn me of hell. What they have told me is that heaven and hell is what you create. “Heaven” for lack of a better word is nothing but energetic vibrations, just like your soul. And some souls enter into a higher vibration while other souls that may still need to do some work enter into a lower vibration.

But here is the thing no soul remains in the lower vibrations. We do our healing and move forward. Life as we know it on earth may end when our physical body does, but life does not end.

Death is the most natural thing that a body can do, just like giving birth. The body and soul already know how to do it. There is nothing to fear. Some people have said they do not want to suffer. It has been my experience that what we perceive as suffering is really the body learning to let go. Our loved ones may seem like they are in pain, but they are not.

Death to me something to look forward to, to celebrate our loved ones going home. I get that we miss our loved ones in this plane, but the truth is even after they pass our loved ones are still very much a part of lives.

So, my question this week is what do you believe regarding death and dying? Do your beliefs cause fear or give you peace or maybe even a little of both. But if your faith or beliefs cause fear I want to ask why? If your faith teaches about hell and that causes fear then what have you done that would warrant the punishment of eternal damnation? Do you really think you were that bad?

I find it interesting that out of the many religious groups I have had conversations with Christians seem to be the one group that fear death the most. And I find that fascinating. I hope this e-news gets you to challenge your views of death and dying and that you can let go of any fear you may have around it.

If anyone would like to have a conversation around death and dying I am always open to that. May you all find peace with the dying process, after all it's just your soul going home!
