The Friday Five-Minute Review
Try this with yourself first. Then bring it to your team.
At the end of this week, sit down and answer these five questions honestly:
- What did I spend most of my time on this week?
- How much of that moved our most important priority forward?
- What did I do this week that only I could do?
- What did I do that someone else should be doing?
- If I had to drop one recurring thing next week, what would it be?
Then bring it to your team:
- Ask the same questions in your next 1:1s
- Listen for patterns
- You'll be amazed at where the energy is actually going
Here's where I want to scream from the rooftops: WHY ARE WE ALL SHACKLED TO OUR EMAIL?
We can save that conversation for another day.
🛠️ What to do with what you find:
- If most of the week went to low-priority work ▶️ what needs to be true to shift work to high-priority work?
- If someone is carrying work that belongs to someone else ▶️ how can we make sure the right people are doing the right work?
- If the calendar is full but the priority is not moving ▶️ where is the time actually going?
This is not about working more. It is about tapping the brakes to make sure we are working on the right things.
Try it. Let me know how it goes.
