Hey First name / friend,
Â
I’ve been thinking a lot about the rhythm of how we share our work online right now and how noisy corners of the internet often make it feel way harder than it needs to be.
Â
If you’ve been keeping track/getting confused/feeling stressed by AI dominating Google search lately, you may also have noticed a couple of new acronyms popping up. Alongside our old favourite SEO, we now have AEO, and GEO to consider. Fun times, hey?
Â
Sounds like yet more annoying jargon, I know, but in the spirit of offering some rare good news for those of us who still want to produce thoughtful, slow-crafted work, here's how I am navigating this for myself and my blogging and webcopy clients…
Â
SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is still the gold standard for getting discovered. It’s the architecture of your website. You still need clear structure, good keywords, titles, and intentional topics that allow your products/sales pages/blog to take root and be found.
Â
AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) is all about clarity, or being the direct answer. It’s answering your reader’s questions quickly and generously in the opening sentences of a blog post, without burying it under unnecessary fluff just to fill space.
Â
GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) is your unique human perspective. When AI tools generate answers for users, they look for genuine depth. So it's time to show off your personal craft, original insights, authority and lived experience that just can't be pulled from generic bot articles.
Â
In short, you don’t need to write robotic, keyword-stuffed articles to make search work for you. In fact, AI models and us humans kind of want the same thing here: clear headings, direct answers without the crappy filler content, and genuine, authoritative insight that can't be copied.
Â
If you want to dig into all this a little more, or find out what services I can offer to support you, just reply to this email and we can mull it over together.Â
