Thrums are the short lengths of warp thread left over at the end of weaving, too short to weave, too good to throw away. Weavers have always known what to do with them: stuff them into mittens, knot them into rugs, tuck them into anything that needs a little more warmth. Nothing is wasted. Everything has a second act. The word is old English, and the practice is older. Long before sustainability became a trend, thrums were just common sense wearing very cozy mittens.
