At her San Antonio gallery, Petra Del Sol is using art to tell a different story about the Mexican Revolution, one that puts women at the center.
Her “Adelitas” exhibition brings together six artists to honor the women who served as nurses, cooks, scouts, messengers and soldiers, while challenging the romanticized version of their history.
The exhibition opened Sept. 12 and runs through Oct. 3, just ahead of Casa Arte del Sol’s third anniversary in October. For Del Sol, the exhibition is personal: she grew up hearing stories about the Adelitas from her grandfather and created the show to honor their strength and contributions.
