Sometimes the opportunity isn’t just in getting invited into the room.
It’s saying YES to the invitation and then having the courage to truly BE in the room once you get there.
I was reminded of this upon my own entry into rooms this month, which were fun, new, uncomfortable, familiar, cultural, inspiring, celebratory, expansive, vulnerable, and heartwarming.
A variety of different rooms. And yet, in all of them, I learned something, reconnected with people I value, met new people, and opened doors to conversations and possibilities I couldn’t have predicted.
Here’s what struck me most:
So many of the people I connected with in those rooms were people I had originally met because I said YES to another room.
One room led to another.
One relationship led to another.
One courageous YES created possibilities for the next.
Getting yourself into the room isn’t enough.
You have to actually BE in the room.
Put down the phone.
Look up.
Introduce yourself.
Ask questions and really listen to the answer.
Be curious.
Allow yourself to be seen.
Did I have to lean into vulnerability to step into some of these rooms?
ABSOLUTELY!
Has my personal and professional life expanded because I chose to step into them and truly be present once I arrived?
100%!
What if the next room you enter isn’t asking you to prove anything?
What if there was a room where you could put down the expectations, stop performing, and simply allow yourself to BE in the room?
What if that room gave you the space to remember who you are underneath everything you’ve accomplished and reconnect with what you want next?
I have a room I'd like to invite you to courageously step into.
