Dear Friends of Maruia,

We welcome you to our 7th season at Maruia River Retreat, opening on October 1, 2026.

Rest well, rise restored.

Spring is a natural time for a reset.

After the quieter months, there is something about the longer days and returning warmth that makes us want to clear out the clutter, get outside and start again.

But a reset doesn’t always mean doing more.

Sometimes, it means resting without guilt.

We live in a culture that rewards being busy and productive. We often feel that if we are not achieving something, we should be. Yet rest is not wasted time. It is when the body recovers, the mind becomes clearer and we have space to notice what we actually need.

There is also something to be said for softening to strengthen.

When we stop pushing, even for a little while, we create the space to come back with more energy, perspective and focus. Stepping away from our usual routines gives us the opportunity to reflect, re-energise and recalibrate — not because something is wrong, but because sometimes we simply need to pause and celebrate where we are and just be.

Maruia for the "Active Relaxers”

For some of us, restoration also means moving.

Walking through our forest trails. Exploring our mini-waterfalls up the track from the mini-hydro plant. Swimming with the Endless swimjets in the heated magnesium pool and the Maruia river, running through our paddocks and getting out into the fresh air. Then coming back to a beautiful meal, a forest bathe in the river hot tub and sauna, then a massage, a delicious 3-course dinner, stargazing from your villa balcony and a good night's sleep.

I loved this recent article from our guest from Active Downunder, Walk. Restore. Explore., which captures this idea beautifully — that wellness doesn't necessarily mean sitting still. It can be about moving your body through extraordinary landscapes, eating well, disconnecting from technology and returning home feeling refreshed.

Maruia River Retreat named one of the 2026 World's Most Extraordinary Spas.

We are thrilled to be chosen as one of the best spas in the world and honoured to be one of the 5 in New Zealand.  Perhaps its time for you to make this Spring the perfect time to recalibrate at Maruia River Retreat.

A few days where you don't have to organise anything. Where the forest, the river and the changing season become part of your day. Where you can sleep a little longer, walk through the native bush, move your body, eat fresh meals daily, have a massage, soak in the river hot tub or simply sit and do nothing.

There is no programme you have to complete and nothing you need to achieve.

You can do as much or as little as you like.

And this year, we took our own advice.

Before welcoming you back for the new season, the Maruia crew took time to rest, restore and recalibrate too. We stepped away, slowed down and gave ourselves the space to recharge.

Because we believe you can feel the difference when the people looking after you have had the opportunity to look after themselves.

We are coming into spring rested, re-energised and ready to welcome you back — with the same care, warmth and attention to detail that we want every Maruia guest to experience.

Perhaps this spring, instead of asking yourself what more you can fit in, give yourself permission to step away for a few days.

Rest well.
Rise restored.
And return to what matters with a little more clarity.

A little luxury escape this Spring

If two nights is all you can manage, we've made it easy to get away.

Come for the forest, the river and the quiet. Enjoy beautiful food, your private villa, wellness experiences and plenty of time to simply be.

We've got a lot more new offerings to share with you for this season so watch out for our next newsletter soon!

Have a lovely weekend and we hope to see you at the Retreat for this wonderful time of the year.

Love and light,
Cristina
