It's been a while since we received an order for a full makunouchi bento — complete with two main dishes and a dessert. One thing that sets it apart from our usual MLB player bentos: the rice comes as three tawara-shaped (barrel-shaped) rice balls, fitted right into the box. For the ballplayers, by contrast, we serve a generous portion of rice in its own separate container!
For this order, the customer chose two mains from the following combinations:
- Mackerel & Baked Ground Beef Cutlet
- Salmon & Ginger Pork
- Baked Karaage Chicken & Tofu Steak
For dessert, they chose between Apple Sweet Potato with Chestnut and Ohagi.
🥗 A Thoughtful Side Dish Choice
This order was for an in-house meal gathering that included non-Japanese colleagues. Instead of oden (egg pouch, konjac, daikon) — a dish especially beloved by Japanese guests — we included refreshing vegetable sides better suited to the lingering late-summer warmth: orange carrot salad and grilled eggplant.
💌 A Message That Made My Day
On the day of delivery, we received a thank-you email. The bento was a big hit, and everyone enjoyed it. They also shared how much they're looking forward to seeing our permanent storefront become a reality. Being able to do this work and receive such encouraging words from customers fills me with gratitude — it's a moment when hard work truly feels rewarded. I shared the message right away with the kitchen staff who prepared it, and it gave all of us a boost going forward.
🍽 A "Quality Control" Lunch
Packing the bento box — carefully making sure not to mix up the combinations, while keeping the colors bright and cheerful — is genuinely one of our favorite parts of the job. After the delivery was complete, three of us from the kitchen staff, myself included, sat down for a quality control" staff lunch. With three different main-dish combinations and more side dishes than usual packed into this bento, our staff lunch turned out especially generous. Checking the flavor and texture was the main purpose, of course, but sharing something delicious together is a happy little moment all its own.
