Hi First name / Friend,

When you're working toward making money in your side hustle you're going to want to quit at some point. And probably more than once.

This is normal and to be expected. Your human brain wants what is comfortable, not what is difficult.

You'll start to doubt that growing a business is possible whilst you're in your corporate role, or that you're not capable enough. After all, you've never done this before. Or maybe you did it once before, a long time ago, but tell yourself that it doesn't count.

This weekend was a 10k race day. I came this close 🤏🏼 to quitting at the 4km mark. It's been a minute since I entered a 10k. The last time, I got sick afterwards. Raceday was hot, the course was hillier than I'd expected and I hadn't slept so well for a few nights.

My brain gave a strong argument for me to quit.

These are the moments we've gotta dig deep.

Self trust, self respect and resilience are built in the moments when your brain says “I want to quit, and here's all my reasons why” and you don't obey it.

Instead, you notice the negative thoughts. Then you redirect it to powerful thoughts. Not positive. Powerful. And then you reinforce those new thoughts.

- From ‘I can’t do this' to ‘This is hard and I can do hard things’
- From ‘I should quit' to 'Quitting isn't going to get me there any faster.'
- From ‘I don’t think I'm cut out for this' to ‘I trust myself to keep going.’
- From ‘I can’t do this' to ‘I can do this, I am doing this.’
- From ‘I’m not capable of this' to ‘I am capable, of this and so much more’
- From ‘I'm overwhelmed and I can't stand it' to ‘This discomfort is temporary.’

I argued the other side of the case with my brain in my race. I'm so glad I did. Because I ran round the next bend and the course entered the most stunning private school estate. Immaculate Grade II listed buildings, clipped lawns, ancient trees and views across the county. Breathtaking. And to think I almost missed it!

Quit, and you miss the views.

Quit, and there's no medal at the end. Or business, money made, or clients helped with the unique thing that only you can help them with.

Quit, and you don't evolve into the version of yourself who's figured out how to overcome the obstacles your mind inevitably throws up.

Redirect your brain, one thought at a time. And become the one who did it.
