As we close out September, we want to give a shout out to the monarch butterflies who have been on the move this month. Did you know every fall, a special "super generation" of monarch butterflies flies up to 3,000 miles to spots they have never seen before?
Western monarchs head for groves along the California coast, while Eastern monarchs travel all the way to the mountain forests of central Mexico. While their parents and grandparents lived just a few weeks, this generation can live up to EIGHT MONTHS, which is long enough to make the trip, rest all winter, and start the journey back north in spring.
With the monarch flight in full swing, it is another signal that we are heading into the season of pumpkin patches, crunchy leaves, and Halloween planning! This month we've got a real-life "Spider Lady" for our book club recommendation, a free classroom Halloween party kit, and two pumpkin seed recipes your explorers will love.
Happy Exploring! 🌎🍂🎃🎒
