WEEKLY(ISH) NEWSLETTER
In the Kitchen with Mandy
Issue 31
I want to connect with y'all the way we once did before social media became so tricky, so grab a cup of coffee and let's catch up!

Rise and shine! Well, if you're in the southeast, I doubt the sun is shining, but you know what I mean! Grab that coffee and let's get to it!

I hope you don't think I'm crazy-coocoo for this but I've been doing a mild amount of emergency prepping. Between this super El Nino we're expecting and how uncertain things seems these days, there's just something driving me to set aside some provisions and make a few preparations that will get us though a few weeks if we lose utilities.

If learning about my plans interests you, sign up for a special email series below. I'm thinking of outlining my food stores and providing a small printable cookbook of recipes to make with them (because if the internet is out, you'll need paper copies!) as well as providing a list of all the things I'm stocking up on and have purchased to get us through (oil lamps, battery backups, etc.)
Interested in a special emergency prep email series?

Here are a few new things I made this week, things I've been CRAVING and what I'm planning on cooking this week (The Boy will be home all week for Fall Break - whoop! whoop!)

Look at these yahoos! All I heard was, But are you strong enough to carry both of us in an emergency?? He did, in fact, walk them both right out the door.

Oh, dang! I almost left you hanging about the mystery critter in the cabinet last Sunday! Our best guess is that it was a squirrel based on the nest we found. It was too small for a raccoon or opossum. I was really hoping for a raccoon! I felt bad clearing the nest out because a lot of care and work had been put into it but… there's a whole forest behind my house the little mama can make another bed in. I set the nest under a tree in case she wants to reuse the materials she'd collected (I used gloves to handle it so hopefully there isn't enough of my smell on it to bother her).

If it's as rainy and overcast where you are as it is here, cuddle up with a book or a good movie and take a nap today! Whatever needs doing will still be there later, so maybe just take a little break today!

Until next time, my friends, take care of yourselves and the ones you love!
