Real (approachable) Style Advice for Real (grown-up) Women with
Real (smart) Budgets

October 12, 2026
Coming to you on Monday this week (that feels like Sunday). Hopefully you are able to enjoy a long weekend and some fall fun and games.

We hosted a party yesterday with a great group of favorite friends, and I have to confess, I was a bit of a wreck leading up to it. (Mary ❤️ was the same way. She was very social, but entertaining threw her into a tizzy;)

Like Mary, I love having people over, but the "food situation" always stresses me out. What to serve, how much to make, when to make it, how to serve it...you get the picture. I know many of you are pros at this, and I bow to you. We all have our strengths, and feeding people is not one of mine. 🤪

Fortunately, I reached out to a few close friends who helped me simplify things, pitched in, and reminded me that I was making it harder than it needed to be.

We'd planned to have everyone outside on the patio, but the weather turned earlier than expected, and it was a complete washout. So we pivoted, moved the whole thing inside, and ended up having a blast.

Another reminder that entertaining is really all about the people. You don't need an elaborate menu, perfect weather, or a Pinterest-worthy setup to have a great time together.

So if you've been thinking about getting some friends together, just do it. Keep it simple, do as much in advance as you can, accept help when it's offered, and then enjoy yourself!

And you know I'm not a cooker, but this Harvest Orzo Salad was so good, if I do say so myself… I'll share the recipe below.

Today we're heading over to Goat Island by water taxi with friends to mark the seasonal closing of a local favorite, the Marina Pub. A fitting way to wrap up what's been a pretty fantastic summer season here in Newport.

HARVEST ORZO PASTA SALAD
If I can do it, so can you;)

Now, here’s what went on in B.Styled this week...

1. 🎥 Reel Recap: Does Your Closet Match Your Life?
This one sparked a lot of great convesations, and “me too's”.  These elevated track pants are a great example of a bigger style lesson: your wardrobe should reflect the life you actually live today, not the one you lived 10 years ago.

1. 🎥 Reel Recap: Newport in the Wild: Fall Edition
A look I spotted around Newport inspired this outfit, and it breaks a few of the styling “rules” I’ve shared for years.  Styles change, and sometimes our eyes need time to adjust to a different way of wearing things. Keeping an open mind and trying something new can help us look modern and current, while staying true to what we like and what works for us.

The key is to take the elements you like, leave what you don’t, and create your own version with what you own.

3. The Suede Belt
This sherpa jacket completely exceeded my expectations. If you handed it to me without the tag, I'd guess it cost close to $200. The quality is that good.

I've come to really trust this Amazon brand for athleisure and loungewear, but this jacket is on another level. It's incredibly soft and cozy without looking sloppy, and the adjustable, cinchable hem gives it shape. The full-zip funnel neck gives it a modern, elevated look, and the smooth inner lining makes it easy to slip on and off over sweaters or sweatshirts without getting hung up.

It's the perfect throw-on layer for chilly fall days and will take you right through winter if you live in a milder climate.  I got oatmeal, but it comes in 11 great colors. Choose the one that works for your fall palette - and keep your shoes in mind too.

Sizing note: I bought the Small and love it, but I easily could have worn the XS. If you're between sizes or prefer a less oversized fit, I'd recommend sizing down.

That's it for today!  Thanks for being here.
Have a great week ahead, and remember to #justgetdressed. ✅👍🏼
