“A good Encyclopedia contains most of the known facts of the world, but there are as useless as Sand Dunes until organized and expressed in terms of actions.” Henry Ford
As a young adult, I would drive through nice suburban neighborhoods in Atlanta, admiring the modest yet plush homes, well-manicured yards, and fancy-schmancy cars that I could see. ‘What do these people do for a living?’ I often wondered. Some were athletes, famous musicians, and even actors. But most –were entrepreneurs. How did they do it? How did they make it in a crowded market where their ideas or business may have been like others? Vision, clarity, focus, and determination.
Dream Big! There should be no limit when using the art of imagination. The mind is a place where we can develop our own reality and even push ourselves to achieve the incomprehensible. Focus on those things that make you happy as opposed to what will make you the most money. You can focus on things that make you money too, but operating in your passion is what will motivate you when the road gets tough. Create your Definite Chief Aim… and make it big. As the saying goes, ‘Shoot for the stars.’ Once you have that idea or vision, put it down on paper, and create a plan to achieve it.
Personally, I do not mind planning; however, I like to build the plane while it’s in flight! As scary as that seems, that works for me. I typically get the big idea and execute without writing down the steps – full transparency. It works for me – to a degree – while it may not work for others. Like for my business partner who is an advocate for writing things down and planning, which is why we make such a great team. For all intents and purposes, write your plan down, map it out, make a schematic, and go make it happen. Although you cannot always account for the unforeseeable, once those unfortunate detours show up, you can revisit your plan and make the necessary adjustments. You can adjust your plan while executing, but do not stop executing. My father tells me, “Million-dollar opportunities happen every day if you’re paying close enough attention and keep moving forward.” It’s all about perspective. Dream big, identify your definite chief aim, make a plan, and execute.
