Are you a New Years' Resolution person? or are you more of a Nah You Can Begin Anytime person?!
While these January 1st resolutions get a bad rap, it's also somehow a great feeling to start with a clean slate, get a fresh chance and release the “old”. What are you leaving behind in 2021?
We remember a LOT of our New Year's Resolutions over the years:
The resolution to run a half marathon. (Ixi)
The year I'd start a business (Ixi)
The resolution to “write my own story” (Ted)
Actually use that planner. (Ted)
Be less of a perfectionist. (Tiffany)
Start that blog. (Tiffany)
But we don't remember these so clearly because we achieved them! Some yes, we did, but most… never got accomplished!
We remember each one because of who we became in the process of trying.
Someone who exercises regularly.
Someone who faces the seemingly impossible.
Someone who brings themselves back to their true self.
Someone who plans ahead and prioritizes.
Someone who moves into messy action knowing they learn most in the doing.
Someone who's a writer.
And those things - every one of them - actually stuck!
So, yes, think about the goals you have the urge to set for yourself. What is it about these goals do you REALLY want?
Maybe you want to revamp your practice routine, and what you REALLY want to stick is learning how to connect your practice sessions from yesterday day to today.
Maybe your goal is to win a job, but what you REALLY want is to create some income from your knowledge, experiences and passion.
Maybe your desired outcome is to nail that audition list, but what you REALLY want is to find freedom in your technique so you can communicate through your true voice.
Whatever it is, we hope you notice that it's not that you achieve it, or how many days passes after Jan 1 before you “fail”. The real accomplishment is in how you change with each goal you set, the process you create, resistance you overcome and how you react when you step into the unknown. Our big wish for you in the year 2022 is to have the clarity that you're headed in the right direction.
