Hey First name / Friend

Tiffany here! I was teaching a lesson the other day and was thinking about ways we can expand traditional exercises to gain more skill + understanding. The exercise at hand was the one below, where we flick the register key to get the 12th and then remove it:

We love this exercise! But, it's so helpful to change things up, so today we've got 3 ways for you to expand on it today in this PDF 👇 !

Important things to keep in mind…
  1. Think about your AIR and your embouchure as you do these and resist biting/pressing into the reed.
  2. Experiment with “trying less” - so often students try to force (with air, pressure, embouchure, shoulders…) when certain overtones aren't speaking, but that rarely ends in success! See how quietly you can play them to try to get yourself to focus on the voicing, air and embouchure working in perfect harmony. They should feel easy!
  3. Watch the angle of your clarinet. This really makes a difference - bring it closer, or move it a little further away. Notice anything?
