Expert Advice: Mingling Finances

The thought of sitting down with your special boo to talk money might be scarier than a zombie apocalypse. But having these challenging conversations early and often could help keep connubial bliss copacetic. Should finances be 100% shared or definitely separate? Paco de Leon, the author of Finance for the People: Getting a Grip on Your Finances, suggests a hybrid approach so that individuals “feel like they are both working together to support each other and their partnership, while also giving each other some autonomy.”  (The Atlantic)

Date Halloween: Delicious, Decadent, & Different

Occasionally, we'll spotlight a city's date night offerings and we'd love to hear suggestions from your neck of the woods. This month, we're featuring spooky tricks and treats in New York City.

Delicious: Absinthe and champagne cocktails served in skull-shaped goblets in this Hell-inspired East Village bar. Café de L’Enfer opened last year by the same folks responsible for Death and Co., Ladybird, and more. Luxe red velvet booths and dark corners serve Halloween decadence year-round. (Café de L'Enfer)
Decadent: A string quartet performs spooky seasonal music from Beetlejuice, Stranger Things, Addam's Family, and Halloween, of course. Soak up atmospheric vibes, surrounded by hundreds of (flameless) candles, at one of several evening performances at St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn Heights. (Candlelight Concert)
Different: Seance is one of a trio of new immersive art experiences from Arts District BK that debuted in August of this year. Guests are seated at a table and locked inside of a pitch-black shipping container. An all-encompassing auditory experience, Seance is meant to blur the lines between fantasy and reality and is "not for the faint of heart.” (Arts District BK)
