SEPTEMBER 2023 vol. 3

When it rains it pours, and this summer has showered us with its fair share of challenges. Ironically, just as a few welcome rain showers gave us a brief respite from the heat, we hit what we hope is the final snag in our string of "rainy" issues. Our home air conditioner has been underperforming for weeks, barely dipping below 77 degrees. Molly was at her wits' end. Even with the actual rain cooling things down for a couple of days, our struggling AC unit continued to affect our sleep and overall mood. On Friday, I called in "my guy," Ryan from Air Pro Solutions—you might remember him from a recent newsletter.  Having previously fixed our Blue Bell freezer, I was confident he'd be able to handle our home AC unit as well.

Unfortunately, he was unable to repair it Friday because one of the valves was faulty So, Molly and I relocated, pillows in tow, to our upstairs apartment, hoping for good news from Ryan the next day.  Imagine my relief when I received a text from Ryan Friday night. He'd found the necessary part locally, but he had to check with the wife about his Saturday plans.  Given how busy the season is for AC repair pros, I was a tad skeptical. I figure she’s getting tired of not having him home on the weekends.  Ever the salesman, I thought I’d sweeten the deal -  I invited him to bring the wife and kids out to the ranch with him.  While I can't say for sure that was what clinched it, I was delighted when I got a text from Ryan on Saturday telling me his crew was headed my way.
While Ryan focused on repairing the AC, I took his wife and kids on a tour of our ranch. Experiencing the ranch through the eyes of children serves as a wonderful reminder of our blessings. Caught up in repairs and tending the animals, I often forget to pause, relax, and truly appreciate the beauty that surrounds me. Kids revel in life's simple joys—climbing hay bales, steering tractors, petting pigs. Sometimes, it takes a fresh perspective to remind us of these delights.
So, a heartfelt thank you to Ryan—not just for fixing the AC, but also for giving me an opportunity to focus on the simple pleasures we often take for granted.
