Happy Friday!
(1 day left until fall)
I went to Whole foods for some Amazon returns this week. Upon opening the bag, the woman at the counter paused and looked up at me as her eyes widened. She looked amused. Confused for a second, I remembered one of the items was a maid outfit I tried on for a cleaning video. I was returning it because it looked more like something I'd use in the bedroom than actually be cleaning in. I could only imagine what she was thinking.

“It's for a video.” I said, breaking the awkward silence. She smiled and nodded. I let out a nervous laugh. “No, like to post online.”

*silence*

I grabbed my receipt and walked away wondering if the $16.32 was worth the uncomfortable interaction. Why do I even speak in public?
Weekly fun fact you didn't ask for
Quite rude of the internet to ruin my favorite holiday.

Loved this episode from a celebrity therapist
Marisa Peer, a celebrity therapist, was on Diary of a CEO, and it was one of the best episodes I've listened to in awhile. She covered a variety of topics, and I highly recommend listening. But below are a few rough notes:

On the rules of the mind, she shared that every thought you think is a blueprint that your mind and body work to make real. I've read a lot about the power of your thoughts, but some of her examples were fascinating. One in particular was about arousal. If a man thinks about sex (or looks at pictures or a movie) and gets aroused, he gets a very physical reaction right away even if there is no one in the room with him. I thought this was such a powerful example of how your thoughts can have a physical reaction on your body.

She continued to share that your mind learns by repetition. So when you think a thought a lot over and over again, it becomes real, even if it's not real. I can't remember the example she gave, but it was something along the lines of how someone was dreading something so much, that their body literally stopped them from doing it. And the quote she shared after is something that really stuck with me: The feeling that can't find it's expression in tears, will make other organs weep.

The conversation around creating fantasies with your partner was especially interesting, and I loved learning about the research on how opposites attract. Loved her advice on picking your battles in relationships (not only romantic ones). She also had a really interesting take on “caring for” your partner and how that can hurt your sex life.

Ok last thing, and this is around infertility, apparently when men have sex with a stranger they triple their sperm outtake, and when women have sex with a stranger, their cervix tilts to suck up the sperm. And she shares how to take this information and help with infertility issues with your partner. Apparently she's helped a lot of couples. Totally worth the listen.

I haven't seen this since I was a kid and it was just as funny when I saw it this week. It's a story about two friends, one is blind and one is deaf. (it's from 1989)
