Dr. Larry's Cancer Journey |
|
Dear First name / Friends and Supporters,, I hope this newsletter finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to share a deeply personal aspect of my cancer treatment journey with all of you. As you know over the past few months, I've been undergoing chemotherapy, and one of the unexpected challenges I've faced is something called "chemo brain" or chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment. I want to shed some light on what it's like to experience chemo brain and share what alternative treatments I have added to my protocol for support and repair. |

The Uninvited Guest: Chemo Brain Chemo brain is a term used to describe the cognitive changes that some cancer patients experience during and after chemotherapy. It can manifest as memory lapses, difficulty concentrating, and a general feeling of mental fogginess. For someone who has always taken pride in their mental clarity and sharpness, chemo brain can be frustrating and disorienting. Simple tasks that were once second nature now require more effort and patience. It's challenging to explain to others that the person they once knew, the one who could effortlessly juggle multiple tasks, has been temporarily replaced by someone who struggles to remember names and dates. |

The Emotional Toll Dealing with chemo brain can be incredibly hard emotionally. There are moments of frustration and self-doubt when I forget something important or struggle to articulate my thoughts. I've had to learn to be patient with myself and ask for help when I need it, which isn't always easy for someone who values independence. |

Treatment for Brain Fog or Chemo Brain Through this experience, I've come to appreciate the incredible support system I have in my life. My family, friends, and medical team have been understanding and accommodating, which has made a world of difference. I have also been utilizing a weekly brain training session which has helped immensely. The brain has a natural tendency to self-regulation and resilience and this is harnessed with NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback sessions at Integrative. The NeurOptimal® system is designed to train the brain as a whole and can support conditions such as: chemo brain, brain fog, sleep disturbances, fatigue, depression, anxiety and more. Check out the video below where Advanced NeurOptimal® Trainer, Carol Sutcliffe, shares a little bit about the benefits, science and research of this treatment and a behind the scenes look into one of my treatment sessions. Wondering if NeurOptimal® could be beneficial for you? Speak with your Integrative practitioner today or book a session with Carol to give it a try. |

The Silver Lining While chemo brain is undoubtedly challenging, I've also discovered a silver lining in this journey. It has taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability. It has deepened my empathy for others facing similar challenges and has given me a renewed sense of gratitude for the moments of clarity.
As I continue my cancer treatment, I want to remain optimistic about the future. Chemo brain is a temporary hurdle, and I am determined to overcome it. Thank you for being a part of my journey and for your unwavering support. I'll keep you updated on my progress and continue to share my experiences as I navigate the path towards recovery. |
